Faces of Bali – When Passion Meets Setbacks
Share
The book was printed – and everything went wrong
Spring 2022 – the book seemed ready and Pre-Sale started.
The documentary was in post-production & we had to film the last bits and pieces, and our first print run of the coffee table book was complete.
It felt like a dream coming true.
Until the books arrived.
Instead of the agreed-upon German production, they were shipped from another EU country – and the quality was devastating.
All 3,000 copies were damaged:
-
Scratchy, poor-quality covers
-
Crooked binding
-
Color issues and page tears
-
Print finishing already peeling off
Whether it was intentional or not, I’ll never know.
But I suddenly had no usable product, no compensation, and no clarity on a solution.
Meanwhile: Motherhood & legal battles
As if that wasn’t enough, I had just become a first-time mom.
Balancing a newborn and a legal dispute with the printing company pushed me to the edge.
The reprint I was promised? Never happened.
Instead: over 2.5 years of ongoing emails, phone calls, and legal proceedings – with zero progress. And I didn’t have the funds to:
-
Reprint the book
-
Finish editing the documentary
-
Launch proper marketing
It was a period of pause, heartbreak, and uncertainty.
But deep down, I held on to the vision.
March 2025 – Faces of Bali is finally ready for the world
Today, I can proudly say:
📽️ The documentary is complete
📚 The new books are beautifully reprinted
And I’m finally ready to share Faces of Bali with the world.
This project is more than a film or a book.
It’s a raw, emotional portrayal of real life on Bali – beyond the surf cafes, beyond the Instagram hotspots.
It’s about:
-
Human connection
-
Cultural depth
-
Spiritual traditions
-
Resilience in the face of crisis
